The brief
Every race video in the INSIDE series needed a thumbnail that stands out in a crowded YouTube feed while still clearly belonging to the series.
My approach
I worked from a fixed frame: cut-out rider, hard-cropped background, short title in sans-serif caps. Within that frame I could vary colour, composition and expression per race. So each thumbnail stands on its own and the series still reads as one thing.
The result
Twelve thumbnails across one season that hold up side by side. What I learned here: designing the system is the real design work. After that, each individual thumbnail is half an hour.
